SuKaz Creates Couture Through Many Hands and Many Cultures

Returning to London, SuKaz presents one-of-a-kind couture art jackets created through international collaboration between designers, fibre artists and craftspeople.

Collaboration sits at the centre of SuKaz.

The Texas-based global collective brings together designers, fibre artists, craftspeople and seamstresses, many of whom have never met one another in person.

Rather than being produced from a single creative perspective, each one-of-a-kind couture art jacket accumulates the knowledge, techniques and artistic languages of multiple collaborators.

Materials and cultural references encountered across Africa, the Middle and Far East, Central Asia and Istanbul form part of this evolving practice, alongside a longstanding interest in needlecraft traditions from around the world.

Each garment is the result of extensive collaboration between designer, fibre artist and seamstress.

The resulting work sits somewhere between fashion and collectible art, shaped as much by the process of exchange as by the physical materials involved.

SuKaz’s SS27 presentation continues its ongoing relationship with the Oxford Fashion Studio London runway, bringing another chapter of a practice built around craft, cultural exchange and the accumulated work of many hands.
