JAJAABOR Traces an Extraordinary Journey From Bengal to Japan in The Other Bose

Indian label JAJAABOR brings history, textile traditions and cultural exchange together through the remarkable story of revolutionary Rash Behari Bose.

JAJAABOR means “nomad” in Assamese — an idea that sits at the heart of a brand built around discovering stories, cultures, crafts and places.

Founded in 2017 by Kanika Sachdev and Neelanjan Ghosh, the Indian label brings heritage techniques and unexpected cultural references into dialogue with contemporary silhouettes.

For SS27, The Other Bose begins with Indian revolutionary Rash Behari Bose and his extraordinary journey from Bengal to Japan.

Japanese minimalism and kimono-inspired silhouettes meet sashiko, Bengali draping, jamdani and kantha, using textile and form to explore the exchange that occurs when people and traditions travel across borders.

At the centre of the collection is an unexpected symbol: a bowl of curry.

Bose’s life in Japan became associated with an Indian recipe that evolved into Indo-Karii — what JAJAABOR describes as the “taste of love and revolution”.

Through clothing, The Other Bose considers revolution beyond politics, examining the legacies created through love, food, craft, migration and cultural exchange.

JAJAABOR presents The Other Bose at 5.30pm on Sunday 20 September at Devonshire Square, London.
