Renee Cafaro Atelier Presents The Alchemy at Lincoln Center for SS27
New York couture house Renee Cafaro Atelier presents a collection exploring transformation, collaboration and circular design through an inclusive approach to haute couture.
Renee Cafaro Atelier has built its practice around a belief that couture should not be limited by conventional ideas of body, gender or representation. Based in New York City, the ethical, fair-wage house was founded by designer Renee Cafaro from a desire to serve the 67% of people who are plus size and has since developed into an inclusive couture proposition for people traditionally underserved by mainstream fashion.
For SS27, Cafaro presents The Alchemy, a collection centred on transformation.
The collection brings together artists, artisans, historians, tattoo artists, tarot experts and members of Cafaro’s modelling community, drawing on references that extend from Tongan tattoo traditions reimagined through embroidery to historic Ukrainian beadwork. Gemstones, elements, embellishment and craft traditions become part of a wider exploration of resilience, cultural exchange and shared creativity.
Circularity is embedded within the making of the collection itself, with archive pieces, vintage materials and existing resources incorporated throughout.
Following the defiant individuality of the house’s previous collection, Out Of Scale, The Alchemy turns towards unity, peace, healing and renewal.
And the story will not end there. The collection will be followed on the runway by an unexpected second chapter for the house.
Renee Cafaro Atelier presents at 2pm on Saturday 12 September at Lincoln Center, New York.
